AkitaBox Mobile “Data Capture” App

DEMO OF UI

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Data Capture app is one of AkitaBox’s most robust tool, helping facility managers compile accurate data on the go. I worked closely with engineers on this project and created all the UI and workflows. This is the first app AkitaBox launched and was built using Flutter.  I was able to design the app to integrate with the existing software so a user can easily transfer data from the app to the software (and vice versa).  A important feature of this app was its ability to gather data offline and upload it once a connection is established.  Offline capabilities had more design challenges than I was expecting, like what to do if there is duplicate data from multiple users or errors in the data type, so I ended up designing a UI to help with these issues when merging the data – similar to that of Git merge (but significantly easier to use). I learned a lot from this project about designing specifically for mobile apps vs. desktop software (which I have more experience in). Some of the things I had to play around with was spacing and sizing to make things easy to tap, and using intuitive gestures to navigate.
